Last week, I watched a movie called My Insta Scammer Friend. It’s a documentary about a group of young people in Ghana who use social media to scam people out of money.

I was really intrigued by this film for a few reasons. First, I’ve been following the rise of social media scams for a while now, and I was curious to see how they actually work. Second, I have a lot of friends who live in Ghana, so I was interested in seeing how they view this phenomenon.

The movie was really eye-opening. I was shocked by how sophisticated these scams can be, and how easy it is for scammers to dupe their victims. I was also saddened by the stories of the people who have been scammed, many of whom are elderly or vulnerable.

But perhaps the most surprising thing I learned from the film was that, in some cases, the scammers themselves are victims. Some of them come from poor backgrounds and are lured into this life by the promise of easy money. It’s a complex issue, and the film does a great job of exploring all sides of it.
